Here is my letter to the NFR Board:
I recommend the 1988 action classic film DIE HARD be entered into the National Film Registry.
I started the “DIE HARD for the National Film Registry” campaign two years ago because I believed this film has stood the test of time and has proven itself as one of the most influential movies in the history of American cinema. Two years later I continue the campaign, standing as firm as ever.
Since starting this campaign I have revisited DIE HARD many times at home, with friends, and the way it was meant to be seen, on the big screen surrounded by many dedicated fans. The film retains its exuberant energy with each viewing.
The film is culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant, as it has become a staple in our pop culture and has changed the way action movies were made.
DIE HARD crosses genre lines and is loved by many Americans because it is either their favorite action movie or their favorite Christmas movie, or both; better yet DIE HARD tops the lists of many as their favorite film of all time.
DIE HARD’s following is huge, and I guarantee in the coming months you will see that following express their love of the movie in a major way.
I am dedicated to DIE HARD, so please consider DIE HARD to be included in the National Film Registry.
